Okay… Bad news first. We were down to one vehicle for the household. Now it’s in the shop. It was originally sent there because of a coolant leak. Then the mechs found issues with the fuel injector. Then they found issues with the turbo charger. As it stands right now that’s over six grand to fix everything.
Yesterday our fridge finally decided to stop working. We have a secondary freezer and I was able to save a lot of the food from the fridge and its freezer area but sadly we still lost some things. I don’t know how much refrigerators cost now because I’ve been too scared to look but just add that to the sudden negative flow.
Good news is that I got the job I interviewed for! And that is good, very good. It’s only part-time but it’s better than no-time. I’ll have to put off getting a vehicle of my own again because the one we have right now takes priority; plus a new fridge.
I’ve been editing a lot of HTML and CSS for my website. I don’t have a timeline of when I’ll get it posted; I’ve been working on it in between everything I have to do around the house.
I’m tired, so that’s all for now. Thanks for reading!
Ah, sometimes the days blend together. Yesterday I spent a good deal of time setting up and working on my website hosted by neocities.org. I think I spent the day before that recording a few bars of music. Everything I’m recording now is in very rough draft condition.
I’m currently just a one-man-band so it will take some time; I certainly hope it’s worth it.
It was either yesterday or the day before that I was able to round up some isopods for my terrarium. I caught four of them and put them in their new home.
Turns out I didn’t have to clean out the terrarium. It was already filled with native elements and as dry as a bone. Last year my daughter put the carcasses and moltings from cicadas in there. Plus there was also an ancient corn cob, of all things. Plenty of substrate, too, and lots of dead grass.
To my understanding the isopods need a dry side and a wet side in their habitat so I poured a bit of water on one side of the terrarium. I also gave them some banana peels to munch on. Maybe today I’ll go into the woods and find them some bark and wood.
If I do so it will probably be the only thing I accomplish today. My sleep routine was interrupted by insomnia and a migraine so I’m not feeling very motivated or energetic.
In the upcoming days I plan on doing some more recording, working a little more on my website and making my isopods happier. I might work on some writing; for about a week I’ve almost completely neglected my notebooks. I can’t get upset about it, though; I’m always pursuing several different goals at any given time so there’s always something that takes a back seat for a while.
Oh! The skunks! My wife and daughter burst through the door a couple days ago because a mother skunk and her kits were just strolling up the road, no doubt enjoying the cool of the evening rain. They were super cute so I recorded them and posted the vid; it’s a short on Youtube.
I have a job interview tomorrow. It’s the second one I’ve had in the last six months so please wish me luck! I need this job so I can eat every day again.
Anyway, thanks for your time, I appreciate it a lot!
I decided to finally make my own website! I know, I know; for many it's no big deal, but for me this is really awesome. I'm so glad Neocities exists. This is just the beginning, so my page looks really basic (because it is!); but bit by bit and day by day I'll work on it.
You can expect randomness and chaos from this site. My life-long ADHD has been honed into a super power. At least that's what I tell myself. I could only choose five tags for this site so I went with the first ones that popped into my head; now I'm wondering if I can change them because I left out music and that's probably the most important one.
I'm a big fan of Linux and have been using it for years now; mainly on a Raspberry Pi but I ran Kubuntu on a 20+ year old HP desktop before it finally catastrophically crashed. Electronics and computer tech are a close second to music in my life. In the early 2000s I bought a book about programming with JBWin (Just Basic for Windows).
At that time I was going to a local community college. I was studying electronics and computer engineering but unfortunately had to drop out. I was a full time student, had to work a full-time high stress job, and had to contend with a chronic neurological issue. I simply couldn't hack it. I had bills to pay; had to eat.
Anyway, after that I became an autodidact. I learned a lot of C++; learned a lot about electrical hardware; and more recently I've used books and online resources to learn a lot about Linux and Python.
But before all that (and yes, I know it's out of sync and non-linear) there was music. I always loved music. In the late 1980s my mom bought me my first guitar: a dinky litle battery-powered electric guitar from Toys 'R' Us. It never stayed in tune for very long but I still managed to learn quite a bit.
Well, that's enough for today. I may return later tonight or tomorrow... or in a week or a month; who knows. In any case, thank you so much if you made it this far, I really appreciate your time! Have a great day!!!
(Uploaded here July 5th, 2026; written earlier for my Substack) Today is June 22nd, 2026, 2:30AM. Wind is calm and the temperature is mid 60s F; but it’s hot in the house.
This article will mention a few of the apps I use a lot. I’m not sponsored by any of them, I just bring them up because I actually use them and really like them a lot.
I’ve tentatively begun the process of branching out regarding my online presences and activities. Over the last week or a bit longer I posted a recitation of a holy sonnet by John Donne known as “Death, be not Proud” to Youtube. I set it to an old guitar melody I recorded some time ago and added just a bit of effects to it. Unfortunately I didn’t realize how much it would kill my channel by having the word ‘death’ in the title and the metadata of the file. So I had to delete it.
Doing this still inspired me to get back into music. I had spent almost the first three decades of my life studying music and playing guitar and bass but never seriously pursued any career as a recording artist; but I very recently started my own account on Bandcamp. I have to finish setting up my Paypal before I can actually use it. As soon as I have it fully up and running I’ll link it here on Substack.
To help out with any future song-writing and recording I collected a few pots and pans and other items to use as drums and other percussion instruments. I recorded the sounds with Audacity. I can’t publish any songs to Bandcamp without also uploading some artwork for it; so of course I used GIMP for that. I used three pictures from my camera roll and manipulated the hell out of them by changing the hues and using a few of the effects available in GIMP. I haven’t uploaded the image yet but I’m planning on using it as the artwork for any songs I publish in the upcoming weeks and months. I started a GoFundMe for myself because I need to eat and pay bills. I may post a more detailed blog about the reasons why later on; suffice to say, I have A LOT of physical problems and health issues these days. It’s pretty much impossible for me to have a steady, real job like I used to.
I’m also considering cleaning out an aquarium I bought a few years to use as a habitat for raising some isopods. My daughter kind of took ownership of the aquarium and has used it as a catch-all for the bugs and other small creatures she’s caught over the years. Recently she’s grown out of that a bit and she hasn’t used it for a while so I told her about my idea and she’s all for it. I have access to literally millions of isopods in my area and I hope she goes out with me when I start turning over rocks, leaves and other forest debris in the hunt for isopods!
Speaking of, if you want to see something really cute, look up ‘rubber ducky isopods’. Those little guys are super cute.
Thanks for reading my article. I was all over the place but I wanted to give a general update about everything I’ve been up to.
